Calcite

CALCIUM CARBONATE APPLICATION

It is used as a filler material in paint, paper and plastic sectors after being processed in various forms. Calcites used in plastic sector are of two types, which are coated and uncoated.

PAINTS

Calcium carbonate is the main filler used in paints and pigments industry which provides better lustering, low oil absorptions, easy spreading, last longer, resistance to worst weather conditions qualities to the products. Fineness and particle-dimension distribution of the material affect covering characteristic of coatings.

Calcium carbonate gives paints characteristics like high gloss, low oil absorption, easy spreading, resistance to bad weather conditions, low wearing, has low electrolyte content, pH balancing effect, developed anti-corrosion and rheological features. Paints are divided into two categories according to their interaction with the environment as water-based and solvent-based paints.

Water — Based Paints

They can be thinned with water. Calcium carbonate is used as filler up to 70%.

Solvent — Based Paints

They can be thinned with thinner. Calcium carbonate is used as filler up to 50%.

Primer and Putties

Since calcium carbonate has alkali pH value and low oil absorbance characteristics, it creates ideal condition for primers. Calcium carbonate filling provides shine, viscosity and high resistance qualities for primers and putties.

PLASTICS

Calcite is considered to bethe most wanted material in the plastic industry.The features it provides to the related products as low Dioctyl - Phthalate (DOP) absorptivity enables to replace the use of expensive pigments as the resultmaking production more profitable and effective. It adds flame retardant features, it also provides viscosity in PVC polymers and does not contain heavy metals and provides long lasting features.Also,the mineral provides fine granule distribution and it does notinteract with other chemicals. Since the material does not include toxic components by its nature,it is odorless and tasteless. Providing heat insulation it results with plastic of the better quality.

Calcium carbonate provides better quality to Thermosets, Thermoplastics, Elastomers and PVC granules by itspurity, structure, fatty acids and lower cost.

Since Calcite provides higher dispersion and lower abrasiveness to the final product, recently it has substantially reduced kaolin, cellulose and optical whiteners use. Comparing to other products Calcium carbonate reduces costs.

It restores primarywhiteness ofused papers.In a decade CalciumCarbonate has replaced Kaolin in paper sector.

It is considered as the most important filler and coating pigment in paper production.

CONSTRUCTION

Naturallyground Calciteis generally used in plaster sector. Calcite serves as a filling material in plaster. Benefits of using calcite are lower costs, prevention ofquicksolidification, smoothness, and ease ofuse.

Calcium carbonate is the basic raw material applied in sealer and filler putties. Filler use has gained a traditional applicationdue to its low cost. Furthermore, as demand for sealers and fillers increase, their functional characteristics gain importance. Mechaniccharacteristics like hanging resistance and theology can be developed with mineral filling materials.

Calcium carbonate is the main source of Calcium Oxide (CaO) which is the irreplaceable material in ceramic production. Calcium Carbonate develops gelignite and anorthite minerals which provide mechanical resistance characteristics to applied materials. Mechaniccharacteristics like hanging resistance and rheology can be developed with mineral filling materials.

Besides it acts as a melting agent at high temperatures in boiler (1050 °C) and increases mechanical and chemical resistance of glass. It decreases the shrinkage caused by firing.

They are used as high quality fillers in concrete products. Calcium Carbonate Filler (CCF) gives extra fast hardening by accelerating hydration processes in cement matrix.

Since Calcium contains very low iron oxide, in glass production it is applied as color stabilizer.

It is used as a raw material in glass sector. Calcite adds better features to glassby improving resistance against chemical influences,hardness and enhances transparency.

It enhances cohesion with bitumen and increases its processability. Calcium carbonate use with materials of rough castas putty and paints simplifies the process of their application.

During sugar production, Calcium carbonate serves as a separating element sorting contaminants contained in molasses out. Phosphoric and organic acid compounds transform into calcium compounds.
